"Oscar winner Ben Kingsley stars as Moses in The Old Stories: Moses, a new biblical event series from Wonder Project and Amazon MGM Studios. The House of David universe expands with an epic Prime Video release set for May 2026"
The expanding universe of prestige biblical dramas is preparing for another ambitious leap.
Following the breakout success of House of David, Wonder Project and Amazon MGM Studios are set to unveil The Old Stories: Moses, a three-part event series that aims to reintroduce one of Scripture’s most enduring figures through a distinctly cinematic lens.
At the center of the production is Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley, who takes on the role of Moses in what is already being positioned as one of the most anticipated faith-based television releases of 2026. Opposite him stands O-T Fagbenle as Pharaoh, portraying the Egyptian ruler whose confrontation with Moses has defined generations of religious storytelling.
The project is overseen by Jon Erwin, the filmmaker behind Jesus Revolution and House of David, both of which helped elevate modern biblical storytelling into mainstream streaming culture. The Old Stories: Moses is scheduled to premiere on May 14, 2026, through the Wonder Project subscription channel on Prime Video in the United States, with international rollout plans expected to follow.
According to the official synopsis, the series explores the foundational history of Israel long before David ascended to the throne. Through the eyes of a young shepherd, the narrative reflects on the courage, failures and obedience of the leaders who came before him — establishing a connective thread between the expanding stories within the House of David universe.
Louis Ferreira and Rada Rae reprise their roles as Jesse and Avva, reinforcing the continuity between the productions. Anna Khaja, known for her work in The Chosen, also joins the cast.
Early footage released in March quickly ignited online discussion. Scenes depicting the burning bush, the parting of the Red Sea and the increasingly volatile encounters between Moses and Pharaoh have been described by viewers as both visually grand and emotionally intimate.
Erwin has framed the project as an effort to present Moses not as a distant religious icon, but as a deeply human figure whose struggles and convictions still resonate in a fractured modern era.
The timing may prove significant. House of David has consistently ranked among Prime Video’s strongest-performing faith-based titles, revealing a growing appetite for high-budget spiritual dramas that combine biblical narratives with Hollywood-scale production values.
Kingsley’s involvement further elevates the project’s prestige. The actor, celebrated for portraying historical and moral figures ranging from Mahatma Gandhi to Itzhak Stern in Schindler’s List, brings a gravitas that could help push the genre deeper into mainstream prestige television territory.
For audiences increasingly seeking stories that merge spectacle with spiritual weight, The Old Stories: Moses may represent more than another streaming release. It may become the next defining chapter in the resurgence of biblical epics for the streaming age.
Wonder Project subscriptions are currently priced at $8.99 per month or $89.99 annually in the United States.
