"A short devotional on the Temple based on 1 Kings 6:11-13, emphasizing that God’s presence becomes real when His people listen to and obey His Word"
“And I will dwell among the children of Israel and will not forsake my people Israel” (1 Kings 6:13—ESV)
The Temple was a very important building for the people of Israel. It was the place where God’s people came to worship, offer sacrifices, and remember that the Lord was present among them.
However, in 1 Kings 6:11–13, the Lord reminded Solomon that the Temple was not merely about a magnificent building. The Temple was not merely about gold, costly stones, the finest wood, or beautiful architecture. What mattered most was the presence of God.
The Lord said, “I will dwell among the children of Israel.”
This is the heart of the Temple: not its magnificence, but the presence of God among His people.
But the presence of God must not be separated from obedience. The Lord told Solomon that if he lived according to God’s statutes, ordinances, and commandments, then the Lord would fulfill His promise and dwell among His people.
Statutes, ordinances, and commandments all speak about the Word of God. For the presence of God becomes real not merely when we lift up our prayers to Him. Not merely when we raise our praise and worship. Rather, it becomes real when we listen to the voice of God through the truth of His Word.
That is why, when Solomon was busy building the Temple, the Lord reminded him to make sure that inside that magnificent place there were souls willing to obey His Word.
Obedience to the Word of God is what assures us that the Lord is willing to dwell with us. Amen!
THE PRESENCE OF GOD BECOMES REAL WHEN HIS VOICE IS HEARD WITHIN IT
